For decades, the Rohingya people in Myanmar have lived through discrimination and violence. Now, they face a planned and targeted campaign of ethnic cleansing. Reports are flooding in of killings, rape and massacres, and the burning down of entire villages to the ground by security forces. Over 400,000 Rohingya refugees - most of them women and children - have fled for their lives in recent weeks. It is the world’s fastest-growing refugee crisis.

Yet the Indian government wants to block the entry of Rohingya refugees into India, and expel about 40,000 Rohingya already in the country. It calls them “illegal immigrants” and a “security threat”.

This fear-mongering maligns an entire community. Security concerns can be addressed by conducting fair and efficient refugee determination processes, as many other countries do. The mass expulsion of Rohingya would return thousands of people, including children, to the same horrors they have fled. It would be immoral and unlawful.

For decades, India has extended a helping hand to refugees - from Tibet, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and many other places. That proud tradition is about to be destroyed.

Don’t let this happen. Say no to paranoia. Help stop the unlawful expulsion of people who need our help.

In this video MP Shashi Tharoor tells you why India must care for Rohingya Refugees and offers his support for our petition.
