Act now to say #IWelcome Rohingya refugees. For decades, the Rohingya people in Myanmar have lived through discrimination and violence. Now, they face a planned and targeted campaign of ethnic cleansing. Reports are flooding in of killings, rape and massacres, and the burning down of entire villages to the ground by security forces.
Even as security forces are accused of carrying out human rights violations, including large-scale sexual violence against women from Adivasi (indigenous) communities, journalists have been arrested on trumped up charges, often under abusive laws.
Journalist Santosh Yadav has been in detention in Chhattisgarh, central India, since 29 September on what are believed to be fabricated charges as a result of his work reporting on human rights abuses by the police.
